Some of my most cherished childhood memories are centered on the Christmas season and nothing brings waves of nostalgia crashing against the shores of my memory quite like hearing the old crooners like Andy Williams, Perry Como and Bing Crosby sing traditional favorites. Recently I heard John Piper indirectly challenge Andy Williams who sang “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” asserting that Christmas is, in fact, the second most wonderful time of the year; taking its place behind Easter. To be sure, our life experiences are varied and Christmas delivers a plethora of emotions from depression to elation. It is my hope that wherever you find yourself on the spectrum (and it’s a sliding scale!), you will contemplate the heavy cloud that hung over our precious Lord from birth as he moved steadily and purposefully toward unspeakable horrors on behalf of sinners and the brilliant, sunburst glory of His resurrection signaling the defeat of the kingdom of darkness. May the Lord abundantly bless you and yours during this “Second Most Wonderful Time of the Year!” Merry Christmas from all of us at Sons of the King!
